​UiTM iHack Competition 2008 (15 - 17 Aug 2008)

On the 15th to 17th of August 2008, the Computer Information Science Department of UTP sent 3 teams of student to participate in UiTM iHack Competition.UTP had competed in the two main categories, which are Forensics and Defense Challenge (FnD) and Capture the Flag Challenge (CtF); winning five (5) out of six (6) spots available, making UTP the overall winner of the competition. UTP grabs a total of RM 19,000 in cash and won two spots to the upcoming Hack in the Box Sec Conf 2008 Capture the Flag Competition.

The first competition on iHack was Computer Forensics and Defense Challenge on the 15th and 16th August. This competition tests the participants to analyse logs, files, disk images, etc for information. Skills needed ranging from log analysis to reverse engineering to hex/binary manipulation.

The second competition on iHack was Capture the Flag Challenge on the 16th and 17th August. This competition tests the participants’ skills to manipulate and exploit vulnerabilities of a target server. Participants are required to gather information and gain access on the target server. Skills required range from basic source analysis to strings injections to rooting a server.
