FOUNDATION STUDIES PROGRAMME (1 YEAR)​

 

1.0 Introduction

The Foundation Studies Programme (FSP) is conducted for s​​tudents who have successfully completed their SPM or other level that is equivalent to SPM. Students are prepared for admission to degree programmes. The Foundation Studies Programme is a complete academic programme that provides students with the basic knowledge and necessary skills relevant to the respective degree programmes.  It is tailored towards degree programmes in engineering, petroleum geoscience, information & communication technology and business information system.



2.0 Programme Educational Objective (PEO)

The PEO of FSP is to produce students with sufficient analytical skills and knowledge in fundamental sciences and mathematics for pursuing education in engineering and technology.



3.0 Programme Outcomes

At the end of the programme, students should be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of science and mathematics in problem solving.
  • Apply analytical skills to interpret and solve problems.
  • Communicate effectively in English.
  • Practise behaviour that reflects good values in the learnin​g process.

5.0 Admission Requirement

To be considered for admission, a candidate must have SPM or equivalent qualifications, pass Bahasa Melayu with at least grade 6C and meets one of the following requirements:

  • Engineering and Geoscience Stream – at least grade 4B in 5 subjects including Mathematics, English, Additional Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Technology Stream – at least grade 4B in Mathematics, English and in any 3 subjects from the following groups: Science and Mathematics or Technical or Commerce.



6.0 Completion Requirements

A student must PASS all the required courses, completed a minimum of 50 credits and obtain a minimum CGPA of 2.00.


7.0 Admission to Degree Programme

Successful completion of the Foundation Studies Programme qualifies a student to enrol in one of the following relevant degree programmes at UTP:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Chemical
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Civil
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Electrical & Electronics
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Mechanical
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Petroleum
  • Bachelor of Technology (Honours) Petroleum Geoscience
  • Bachelor of Technology (Honours) Business Information System
