Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in collaboration with TMNET, had signed an agreement on 16 April 2007 to formalise the establishment of a partnership for “wireless campus” in a project called “Wireless Broadband Project @ UTP”.  By signing this agreement, UTP will be the most extensively covered University for wireless broadband access – a milestone for the nation’s higher-education sector.

The event was held at the campus in Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak and Y.Bhg Datuk Dr. Rosti Saruwono, Vice President, Education, PETRONAS and Y.Bhg. Dato’ Adnan Rofiee, Chief Operating Officer, TM Retail witnessed the signing ceremony between TMNET and UTP. En. Ghazali Omar, General Manager, Internet Services Sales represented TM while Dr. Zainal Abidin Hj. Kasim, Rector represented UTP as signatories of the agreement, which will see TM as the wireless broadband access provider for UTP.

The service will allow UTP students to log-on to the Wireless Broadband network with their student ID number using any wi-fi compatible mobile device or computer. The coverage is facilitated by 37 access nodes located across the campus, which provides extensive wireless access through an Internet backhaul infrastructure with a capacity up to 15Mbps. In addition, UTP students will also be able to use the extensive TMNET Hotspot network nationwide using the same login ID.
