UTP STUDENTS RECEIVED YAYASAN TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN AND TAN SRI KHIR JOHARI AWARDS

It's another success story for Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) when two of its students were accorded awards during the Malam Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman 2007 which were held last Friday, 9th February 2007 at Istana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The awards were presented by Y.B. Dato' Mustapa b Mohamed, Minister of Higher Education cum the Chairman of the Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman in the presence of DYMM Yang DiPertuan Agong.

Two awards were presented during the dinner, the Tunku Awards were presented to students who has shown excellence achievement in academic, co-curriculum and leadership. The second award, on the other hand, which is Tan Sri Khir Johari Award were awarded to students who had experience exceptional personal difficulties in the form of barriers/ impedances/ hurdles or handicaps but still managed to achieve excellent academic results.

 

 

Avinash a/l Kishore Kumar, the recipient of Tunku Award graduated in August 2006 with a Bachelor of Engineering, Chemical Engineering. He who obtained a First Class Honours with a CGPA of 3.77 was the recipient of the Gold Chancellor Award during the Sixth Convocation ceremony. He walked away with a certificate, gold medal worth RM2000 and ASW shares worth RM3000. He is currently working at PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd.


The recipient of Tan Sri Khir Johari award, Ms Amandeep Kaur a/p Jusdir Singh, a second year student of Chemical Engineering. fractured her back-bone since she was 16 years old. Eventhough she constantly feels pain and numbness whilst sitting or standing for a lengthy period, she is still able to consistently achieve CGPA results of 3.5 and above in all her exams. The award consists of a certificate and ASW shares worth RM2000.
