PERHIMPUNAN SISWA 50 TAHUN MERDEKA

9– 14 JANUARY 2008

29 members of UTP Performing Art Group (UPAG), together with almost 2000 students from 34 IPT’s all over the country, gathered in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to participate in the 50^th Merdeka Students’ Assembly (Perhimpunan Siswa 50 Tahun Merdeka) held in conjunction with the 50^th National Independence Celebration.

The 5-day assembly (9^th – 14^th January 2008) was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Arts & Heritage (KekkWa), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and the Malaysian Universities Cultural Council (MAKUM) in collaboration with the Malaysian Cultural Council, Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Ministry of Education.

One of the main objectives of this esteem national program is to nurture the spirit of patriotism amongst university students and appreciation towards our national heritage and culture. The opening ceremony of the program was commemorated by the Deputy Chief Secretary of KekkWa, Datuk Nor Azmal Mohd Nazir. Also present were Prof. Ir. Dr Amir Hashim Mohd Kassim, Chairman of MAKUM and Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr Alias Mohd Noor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni) of UTM.
