30 UTP students (20 internationals & 10 locals) participated in the PETROSAINS-UTP Science Communication Programme June 2008 which was held on the 8th – 28th June 2008. This programme was organized by PETROSAINS in collaboration with PETRONAS Education Sponsorship Unit (ESU) and UTP. The international students involved were from Myanmar, Cambodia, Sudan, Chad, Pakistan, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, South Africa, Mozambique and Vietnam.
The main objectives of this programme were to stimulate participants’ interest in science and technology, develop their science process skills, further enhance their communication & presentation skills as well as providing them with the necessary exposure to the working environment. The participants were trained in many aspects in relation to communication such as presenting science shows, facilitating and communicating with the public and conducting research. In addition, the participants went for an educational trip to Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) and National Science Centre (Pusat Sains Negara).
The closing ceremony or better known as the Graduation Day –Batch June 2008 was held on the 27th June 2008 (Friday) at Wonder Zone (Meter City), PETROSAINS which was attended by En. Mohd Faiz Mat Isa (Project Manager of the programme), En. Saiful Bahari (Director of Learning Centre, PETROSAINS), including UTP representatives (En. Muhd Syazwan Amarjit & En. Marfauza). During the closing ceremony, besides the usual certificates and awards presentation to all participants, there was also a slide/video presentation of the programme prepared by the participants and experience sharing by the “Best Science Communicator” in both of the Male (Silvio – Mozambique) & Female (Siti Khadijah Abdul Aziz – Malaysia) categories. The “Best Group” award was presented to MOTON, of whom the members were Siti Khadijah Abdul Aziz (Malaysia), Kamran Haider Tunio (Pakistan) and Haroun Mahamat Kanfout (Chad). At the end, all 6 groups (consisting of 5 participants each) presented their science projects to all guests.
The closing ceremony ended at around 12.30pm. |
