COLLABORATION BETWEEN UTP AND ORACLE CORPORATION MALAYSIA SDN BHD
7th August 2007
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) today progressed further in its continuous efforts in providing enhanced learning experience for its students with collaboration with Oracle Corporation Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Oracle).
The MoA is part of an alliance between Oracle and the higher learning institutions to address the critical shortage of information technology skills in the workforce through a programme called ‘Oracle Workforce Development Programme (WDP)’. WDP will allow education institutions to deliver Oracle training as part of certificate and non-degree programmes offered via Continuing Education. Students will receive an easy and low-cost access to Oracle training in local communities across the country.

One of the criteria of the WDP is that the institutions must integrate the Oracle subjects into their overall curriculum, either as a standalone course or as a component of other courses. The students can attend these classes in their own time which is beyond their normal lecture hours but using the university’s facilities. The WDP classes will only require about 12 hours/week. The modules consist of Oracle9i : SQL and Oracle9i: Database Administration Fundamentals 1. After completing these modules, the students will receive Oracle9i Database Administrator Certified Associate (OCA).
It is expected that through this agreement, it will pave the way to enhance relationship between the industry and the academia in creating a pool of educated and trained human capital.
