UTP OOFFSHORE LAB IS NOW OFFICIALLY OPEN

On the 10th of July 2008, the Civil Engineering Department of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS was very proud to announce the opening of the offshore labs. The lab was officially opened by Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Bin Hj Kasim, Rector of UTP. In his speech he highlighted that the usage of the facilities will cover both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. He also said that, “Facilities such as these, inevitability will lead to groundbreaking research and new breakthrough if the right experts work together with the appropriate collaborators”. He also welcomed potential collaborators in the area of offshore engineering to work together to further enhance R&D and consultancy activities. The 22 meters long by 10 meters wide and 1.5 meter deep wave tank is capable to generate many types of waves with state of the art capability to observe and measure the effect of wave on structures like jetty, seawall, revetment, pontoons and etc.
