SEVENTH CONVOCATION CEREMONY UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI PETRONAS

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) celebrated its 7^th Convocation Ceremony on Monday, 27^th August 2007.

This year UTP witnessed a total of 848 of its students graduating in their respective fields of studies. Out of this figure, 809 were undergraduates from various programmes i.e Chemical Engineering(152) Civil Engineering(91) Electrical & Electronics Engineering(155) Mechanical Engineering (185) Business Information Systems(105) and Information and Communication Technology(121) and 39 were postgraduates from Petroleum Engineering(18) Electrical & Electronics Engineering(4) Chemical Engineering(8) Mechanical Engineering(2) and Process Integration(7) All graduates received their scrolls from the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr) Mohd Hassan Marican.

The ceremony was also attended by members of the university’s board of directors and PETRONAS Management Committee members and also the Rector / Chief Executive Officer of the University, Dr Zainal Abidin Haji Kasim.

This year’s Chancellor Awards were presented to Mohd Fairuz Azman (Mechanical Engineering Programme) for Gold, Lai Chan Yet (Information and Communication Technology Programme) for Silver and Ang Ken Li (Electrical and Electronics Engineering Programme) for Bronze.

Among those who received their scrolls is a pair of twins who hailed from Sabah, Amier Avril Leiking and Aaroun Azra Leiking, both from Civil Engineering Programme who both scored a CGPA above 3.00. One more outstanding graduate is Sharifah Zahira bt Syed Iedin from Electrical & Electronics Engineering Programme, who hasd secured 8 job offers even before her graduation. She is an exemplary of a well-rounded graduate of UTP.

In conjunction with the convocation ceremony, UTP and the Student’s Representative Council had also organised a four-day festivity at its campus in Bandar Seri Iskandar.

The ConvoFair, held since Friday, 24^th August until 27^th August 2007, was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri B Abdul Aziz, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department. Various activities took place during the ConvoFair including performances by guest artistes Ramli Sarip and Adam AF2 and Treasure Hunt, Paintball, Futsal and many more.
