13 Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) students from the Young Entrepreneurs Club (YEC) won the ‘SIFE Rookie of the Year Award’ for being the best new team participating in the most recent Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Competition 2007 at the national level held on 14 and 15 July at Carlton Holiday Hotel, Shah Alam, Selangor. SIFE is an international non-government organisation active in over 1800 colleges and universities in more than 40 countries. SIFE mobilises teams of university students to utilise their personal educational experiences, the expertise of the faculty and business advisors, and support of SIFE donours to create educational outreach programmes that benefit the communities and enhance personal growth of the members. The effectiveness of the educational outreach programmes are measured during the SIFE National Competition and SIFE World Cup which are held annually. Despite being a newcomer in the competition, their performance had impressed the judges and they were also awarded the SIFE Spirit Award, an award given to a team for the spirit shown in the competition despite not being qualified to the Final Four of the competition.
SIFE UTP team was only 2 points behind Universiti Kebangsaan During the presentation, most of the judges were impressed with our Business Information System 1st year student, Muhammad Ismal Azwan Bin Ishak as conveyed by the Organising Chairperson – Y. Bhg. Datin Assoc.Prof. Norela Nuruddin who is also the Country Coordinator of SIFE Malaysia. Three other presenters from SIFE UTP were Hazim Bin Idris (3RD Year, EE), Fatimah Bt Md Radzal (2nd Year, ME) and Mohd Razif Bin Borhanuddin (2nd year, ICT). Nine other UTP students had assisted by providing technical support to the the four UTP presenters during the competition. They are :
Among the judges for the Final Four were Y.Bhg. Dato’ Azman Bin Mokhtar (MD, Khazanah Nasional Berhad), Mr Wan Mansoor Wan Abdullah (President, AVON UTP will continue to provide the encouragement and motivation for its students to excel in their soft skills.
