UTP WON 2ND PLACE IN THE INVENTION COMPETITION IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NATIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY 2008

24 – 27 APRIL 2008

The name of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) was again in the hall of fame in the recently held National Intellectual Property Day 2008. The competition which was was held from 24 – 27 April 2008 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre was organised by Perbadanan Harta Intelek Malaysia (MyIPO) and hosted by Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna.

UTP team which consisted of 6 UTP students, came up with an invention named "RFID Attendance and Smart SMS System", which serves to address the rising rate of child abduction cases. It automatically detects children as they enter / leave any defined boundary, and parents are simultaneously notified via the SMS.

 

The group members are all in their third year of study, and they are:

NASIBAH BINTI ISBULLAH    (CIVIL ENGINEERING)
MOHD. SAIFFUL IZZUAN BIN ISHAK BIN MAHBOB (ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING)

Other participating universities were Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).  The overall result is as below:

Champion          :  University College International of Sedaya

2nd place            :  Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)

3rd place            :  University College International of Sedaya
