INDUSTRY ADVISORY PANEL (IAP) FIRST MEETING

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has taken another step to ensure that its education deliveries remain relevant with industrial practises.  In order to further strengthen its relationship with industry players, an Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) was established and the first inaugural meeting was conducted at UTP on 7 May 2007. The University has invited a total of twenty-four panel members consisting of senior practitioners from industry with wide experience and expertise in their fields.  Through this meeting, it is hoped that they will be able to assist the University for the purpose of planning and continuous improvement on the quality of the programmes offered in UTP.  In addition, the selected IAP members are also considered to be representing one of UTP main stakeholders.

 

 

The panel members are required to meet the department/University at least once/twice a year to discuss matters on the University’s academic curriculum, teaching methodology, facilities and practices so that it is in tune with the needs of the industry. Their hands-on expertise will provide industry perspective on the quality of graduates to ensure that they are:

  • of significance to the profession

  • consistent with industry and government objective

  • in accordance with industry needs

  • abreast with changes in technology

 

The event began with a Reception Dinner on Sunday, 6 May 2007, at Impiana Casuarina Hotel, Ipoh. The event permeates the initial meeting between the UTP Heads of Department and the panel members. The meeting kicked off on Monday with the opening address by Dr. Zainal Abidin bin Haji Kasim, Rector of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. The University was very honoured to have the panel members at the University and hope that the industrial inputs from the panel members could help the University to further enhance the curriculum, and to establish academic-industry collaboration. It is also expected that the meeting will be of significant for the University to continuously provide premium quality education to its students.
