PETRONAS SPONSORSHIP AWARD CEREMONY TO CHAD STUDENTS

PETRONAS through the Education Sponsorship Unit (ESU) provides sponsorships to selected students from countries where it has operations, to study at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. On 15 December 2007 the effort was again realised when PETRONAS awarded sponsorships to 10 candidates from Republic of Chad to pursue their undergraduate studies at UTP. During the ceremony, 8 candidates also received their offer letter to pursue their postgraduate studies under the UTP Graduate Assistantship Scheme. All the students will register in UTP for the January semester. The ceremony took place at Kempinski Hotel, D’Jamena and was attended by the students together with their parents and family members
UTP Rector, Y.Bhg Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Hj Kasim presented the letter of award to the respective students. The event was also attended by En. Alais Mohd Yunos Director General, PETRONAS Carigali Chad Exploration & Production Inc, Pn. Nor Raina Yeong Abdullah, General Manager HR, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd, En. Mohamed Reza Arabi Manager JV- Sub Sahara , En. Ibrahim Afandi Tuan Yaacob Manager, PETRONAS Education Sponsorship Unit, En. Muhamad Syazwan Senior Manager, UTP Student Support Services Department and En.Mohd Zairee Shah, UTP Corporate Services Department.
This is the fourth year PETRONAS is extending scholarships to students from Chad to study at University Teknologi PETRONAS. To-date, PETRONAS has extended sponsorship to a total of 33 Chad students i.e 23 undergraduate students and 10 postgraduate students. Some of the delegates led by Datuk Dr Zainal also took the opportunity to visit HE Dr. Oumar Idriss Al Farouk, Minister of Higher Education and also the Rector of King Faisal University and D’Jamena University respectively.
