Students are required to prepare and submit the following documents together with UTP admission application form:
- Copies of school/university certificates or academic qualifications
- Copies of high school/university degree transcripts officially translated in English
- Copies of certificates in extra-curricular activities
- Copies of other supporting documents relevant to the applications
Copies of certificates/transcript and other documents must be certified and verified by authorities such as school principals, university registrars, government department officials, etc.
Documents Required After Receipt of Offer
Upon receiving our Letter of Offer, students will be required to submit the following documents to our Admission and Registration Unit of Registry Office 60 days prior to their entry to Malaysia:

- A copy of the passport or traveling documents (full booklet copy)
- Sponsorship Guarantee Letter (for sponsored students)
- Letter from a bank stating the students’ financial capability (for self-sponsored students)
- Evidence of a recent medical examination completed using the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education form, certifying that the student is of sound health
- An original release letter from previous Malaysian learning institution for those who previously studied at another Malaysian learning institution
- Letter of Acceptance from UTP
- Recent passport-sized color photographs (6 copies)

- Proof of payment made on the following (for private students) :
- Deposit
- Tuition Fees
- Insurance
- Accommodation

Student Pass
The following conditions apply in the application of student passes:
- Students have received the Letter of Offer from the local institution of higher learning i.e UTP
- Students from non-Commonwealth countries also require a visa except those from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Liechenstein, San Marino and the United States

- Students from Commonwealth countries do not require a visa except nationals of Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka.
A student pass is issued by the Immigration Office (in Malaysia only) based on certification by UTP. The issuance of the pass is governed by the following conditions:

- Students at Postgraduate (Masters and Doctorate) levels who have obtained a place of study offer are permitted to bring along their immediate family members (spouse, children, mother and father) to stay with them in Malaysia. The duration of stay of he family members is based on the approved duration of the students’ study. Family members are given social permits and only allowed to stay in Malaysia based on the duration of study of the student.

- In the application, the student and family members need to prove that they have sufficient amount of funds to meet the costs of study and living expenses while studying in Malaysia. The students are required to submit related documents such as a Bank Draft, Bankers Orders, Bank Account or Travelers’ Cheques. The estimated living expenses (excluding tuition fees) for each student is USD2,000.00 per year, USD1,600.00 per year for spouse and USD1,700.00 per year for each of the other family members.

- Students and family members (if any) must not involve themselves in any activities which are against the law and regulations of Malaysia.

- Students are not permitted to involve themselves in any employment activities, except:
- Those who have to undergo an on-the-job / practical training, provided it is a pre-requisite of the study; or
- Those who hold a Working or Visiting Permit (Temporary Attachment)
- Students and family members (if any) are only allowed to stay in this country according to the date stated in the pass. If there is a need to extend the duration, applications need to be submitted not later than 30 days before the expiry date.

- Approval of a Student Pass and Visiting (Social) Permit can be revoked or withdrawn if the pass holder fails in their examinations or offend any conditions specified by UTP and the Government of Malaysia.

- Students and family members (if any) must return to their home country as soon as possible after finishing their studies or their passes would be withdrawn.
How To Apply
International students who are abroad can apply for student passes at Immigration Office (in Malaysia) by sending the documents through UTP sixty days (60) days prior their arrival to Malaysia for UTP to submit on their behalf. The required documents and forms for submissions are:
- Letter of offer from UTP (1 photostated copy)
- Three (3) copies of Visa application form-IMM.38 (if student needs a Visa).
- Two (2) copies of Student Pass application form-IMM.14.
- Passport/Traveling Document (1 photostated copy of all printed pages)
- Proof of sufficient financial support.
- Six (6) pieces of latest color photographs (at least in the last 6 months) measuring 3.5cm X 5.0 cm.
- Copies of school/university certificates or academic qualifications
- Copies of high school/university degree transcripts officially translated in English and endorsed by relevant local authority of the students’ country of origin
- Evidence of a recent medical examination completed using the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education form, certifying that the student is of sound health – original and photostat copy
Note: According to Malaysian Immigration Law, an official approval of the Student Pass/Visa must be obtained from Immigration Office before any international student can enter the country as a student to avoid problems with Immigration officials when arriving to Malaysia at the various entry points i.e. airports, shipping ports and boarder entrances. Application must be made Sixty days (60) in advance before a student comes to Malaysia to give ample time to wait for the approval.
Holder of Dependent Pass Staying in Malaysia
Foreign citizens staying in Malaysia based on Dependent Pass are also required to apply for a Student Pass if they wish to study in this country. Their application has to be submitted to the Immigration Office where their Father/Mother Working Permit was issued. The required forms are:
- Letter of application
- Letter of offer from UTP (original and photostated copy)
- One (1) copy of Visa application form-IMM.38 (if student needs a Visa)
- Two (2) copies of Student Pass application form-IMM.14.
- Two (2) copies of Student’s Personal Details form.
- Student Father/Mother Passport/Traveling Document (original and 1 photostated copy)
- Six (6) pieces of their latest photographs measuring 3.5cm X 5.0 cm.
Dependent Social Pass for Family Members of Holders of Student Pass
Family members (spouse, children, siblings, mother and father) of Postgraduate (Masters and PhD) students are allowed to stay in this country on Dependent Social Pass. Family members are advised to come to Malaysia only after the student already obtains the Student Pass/Visa sticker in the student’s passport. They must come first to Malaysia with a Social Visit Pass/Visa to be applied and obtained from the Malaysian Embassy/Consulate/High Commission office in their country of origin following all the required procedures. Once in Malaysia, before the expiry date of their Social Visit Pass/Visa, the student has to apply, obtain approval and make payment to get the sticker of the Dependent Social Pass for them which is based on the approved Student Pass duration awarded to the student. Application can be made at the nearest Immigration office to UTP. The required documents and forms are:
- Letter of application
- One copy of Social Pass Application form-IMM.12
- One copy of Visa application form-IMM.38 (if student needs a Visa)
- Proof of family ties with the student officially translated in English i.e. marriage certificate of student, birth certificate or marriage certificate of parents
- Oath letter (to be stamped by Commissioner of Oath in Malaysia)
- Passport/Traveling Document (original and 1 photostated copy)
- Proof of sufficient financial support.
- Six (6) pieces of their latest color photographs measuring 3.5cm X 5.0 cm.
Immigration Fees
Fees for the related permits are as follows:
- Student Pass RM60.00 per year
- Visiting (Social Pass) free for the first one (1) month and RM100.00 per month subsequently for extension period (maximum extension period is 3 months)
- Visa approximately RM20.00 per year (if student needs a Visa
but the fees might vary according to countries)
Note: Student Passes are not transferable. The permit will be cancelled once students transfer to a different institution. In this case, such students might have to return to their countries of origin and apply for a fresh Student Pass through the new institution of their choice.
Other Immigration Matters
Students are allowed to change their Programmes but prior permission must be obtained from the Immigration Office. The Immigration Office has to be notified if a student:
- Terminates his/her study
- Fails his/her examination
- Changes to another college/institution
- Switches to another program
Advice to Students
Students who have been accepted to study at UTP must make sure that they have all the necessary documents and personal effects ready well before the time of departure. Students are advised on the following:
- Bring documents ie flight ticket, passport, Student Pass/Visa approval letter, offer letter from UTP, copies of school/university certificates/transcripts or academic qualifications, and a sufficient amount of cash.
- Bring suitable clothing and medication (if prescribed).
- Illegal drugs are not allowed into the country. Neither are animals, plants and perishable food.
- Inform UTP Admission and Registration Unit, Registry Office and International Student Unit, Student Support Services Department of your arrival details i.e. flight numbers, date of departure and expected date and time of arrival before leaving your home country.
