Tan Sri Dato’ Shamsul Azhar Abbas
President & Group Chief Executive of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS)



Tan Sri Dato’ Shamsul Azhar Abbas
was appointed as the President and Group Chief Executive of  Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), the national oil and gas corporation of Malaysia, on 10 February 2010.

He began his career with PETRONAS in 1975 and prior to his current appointment held numerous senior management positions within the Group across business divisions that include the Logistics and Maritime, Exploration and Production, Oil, as well as Petrochemical. Tan Sri Dato’ Shamsul Azhar is also Chairman of the Board of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, the Group’s wholly-owned exploration and production arm.  He also serves as Chairman of the National Trust Fund of Malaysia.

Tan Sri Dato’ Shamsul Azhar holds a Master’s of Science (MSc) in Energy Management from  the University of Pennsylvania, a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Economics from Universiti Sains Malaysia as well as a Technical Diploma in Petroleum Economics from the Paris-based Institut Français du Pétrole.

He has been conferred with several awards from by state governments of Malaysia, which include the Darjah Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM), the second-highest award of the Malaysian Federal Government. Beyond the Malaysian borders, he was conferred the Dato Paduka Seri Laila Jasa Yang Amat Berjasa Darjah Kedua by the Sultan of Brunei, and is also a recipient of the Honor du Merit from the Government of the French Republic.









Tan Sri Sidek Hassan,
Chairman of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS)

Tan Sri Sidek Hassan is the Chairman of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), the National Oil & Gas company of Malaysia.  He assumed the position in July 2012 pursuant to his appointment as an Independent, Non-Executive Member of the Board.

Prior to joining PETRONAS, Tan Sri Sidek served in the Administrative and Diplomatic Services of the Malaysian Civil Service for 38 years, the last six of which as the 12th Chief Secretary to the Government.

He had an extensive career of close to three decades with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysia, during which time he held numerous positions including those of Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary General (Trade) and Director of the Multilateral Relations Division.  He was also Minister Counsellor of Economic Affairs at the Malaysian Trade Commissioner’s Office in Washington DC, United States; Malaysian Trade Commissioner in Sydney, Australia and Assistant Trade Commissioner at the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

He also served a four-year stint at the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, where he was Deputy Director at the Unit’s Project Analysis Sector and subsequently appointed Deputy Director of Research.

Tan Sri Sidek holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the New Hampshire College, United States and a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree in Public Administration from Universiti Malaya.  He also holds an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, Honorary Doctorate in Management from Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Teknikal Melaka.

In addition to his roles and responsibilities at PETRONAS, Tan Sri Sidek serves as President of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and is Chairman of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sendirian Berhad (MRT Corporation), the wholly owned Malaysian Government company established to facilitate and expedite a new major three-line rail transport system in Greater Kuala Lumpur.
