The Department of Management & Humanities was established in the year 1997. The department which first started of as the General Studies programme was later renamed the Department of Management & Humanities. There are a total of 41 lecturers serving in the department. Out of this total, 36 are Malaysian, while the rest are international faculty.


The Department of Management & Humanities provides courses that are aimed at producing well-rounded graduates who will possess not only the latest competencies in Engineering, Science and Technology, but also other qualities such as strong leadership, good behavioral and communication skills, analytical thinking ability, as well as managerial, business and social competencies.


The Department of Management & Humanities is made up of 3 units, namely the Business and Management Unit, the Language & Communication Unit and the Social Sciences & Humanities Unit.

Business & Management Unit

The Business and Management unit offers a wide range of courses aimed at providing the business management and entrepreneur dimension required by students (see list of courses offered). It offers courses at both the foundation and undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, this unit provides elective courses for all the MSc programmes. Apart from acting as a servicing unit, it also offers minoring packages for both engineering and technology undergraduate students namely Minor in Management, Minor in Financial Management and Minor in Corporate Management.
Language & Communication Unit

The Language Unit offers English language courses at the Foundation and Undergraduate levels. These courses comprise of proficiency as well as English for Academic Purpose courses. There are currently 14 lecturers attached to the unit. In addition, the unit also offers Intensive English courses for International students intending to pursue Foundation and Undergraduate courses in UTP. Besides English courses, the Language unit also offers Arabic, Mandarin and French courses as electives.
Social Science & Humanities Unit


The Social Science and Humanities unit provides a sociological, humanistic and an ethical dimension to education at the University. It offers electives at undergraduate level as well as courses for the university’s foundation programme.  It is also responsible for offering required courses under the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). These courses comprise of Islamic Studies, Malaysian Studies and Moral Studies. Besides MQA courses, the Social Science and Humanities unit also offers Cultural Anthropology, General Psychology and Introduction to Social and Political Science courses as electives. The unit is central in producing ‘well-rounded’ students in advancing the professions, nation and society.
