Electrical & Electronic Engineering is one of the most important engineering disciplines within the engineering society. Its contributions is not limited to areas in applications such as telecommunications, computer systems, and power engineering but also extended manufacturing, medicine, information technology and many more. Unlike other engineering disciplines, Electrical & Electronic Engineering is very dynamic and sensitive to technological advancement in the world. In fact, most of the technological revolution started from Electrical and Electronics.
Electrical & Electronic engineers are involved in the design and development of modern high technology applications such as automation for electromechanical systems, computer systems, embedded systems, electronic control systems applied in process plants, automotive industry, aerospace, and even maintenance. In other words, Electrical & Electronic engineers are highly demanded in various fields and its graduates are highly sought after by potential employers.
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Electrical & Electronic Engineering programme at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS emphasizes on a strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and chemistry, followed by a thorough coverage of basic electrical and electronic engineering courses such as circuit theory, analogue electronics, digital electronics, microprocessor, as well as signal and systems. At higher levels, students are exposed to data and computer networking, digital signal processing, VLSI system design, control theory, communication systems, and power electronics. In the final year, students have the opportunity to major in one of the selected areas of their interest:
- Power Systems Engineering
- Communication Systems
- Instrumentation and Control
- Embedded Systems
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) are:
To produce technically qualified Electrical & Electronics Engineers with the potential to become leaders of Electrical & Electronic Industries.
To produce Electrical & Electronics Engineers who are committed to sustainable development of Electrical & Electronic Industries for the betterment of society and the nation.
There are eleven Program Outcomes (POs) which relate to the skills, knowledge, and behaviours that student acquire through the programme, which are linked to the PEOs:
Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of basic science and engineering fundamentals.
Acquire in-depth technical competence in a specific engineering discipline.
Ability to undertake problem identification, formulation and solution in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
Ability to utilize a systems approach to design and evaluate operational performance in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
Ability to demonstrate the understanding of the principles of sustainable design and development.
Ability to demonstrate the understanding of professional & ethical responsibilities and commitment to them.
Ability to communicate effectively, not only with engineers but also with the community at large.
Ability to function effectively as an individual and in a group with the capacity to be a leader or manager, as well as team member.
Ability to undertake the social, cultural, global and environmental responsibilities of a professional engineer.
Recognize, acquire and possess the need to undertake lifelong learning.
Demonstrate business acumen and entrepreneurship in specific engineering and other related businesses.
Electrical and Electronics engineers are normally employed in the manufacturing, automation, electronics, telecommunications, automotive, power generation and supply, building services industries and plants. Graduates could also make a career in microelectronics industries, production management, operation and maintenance, consultancy, research, marketing and technical services. The job usually involves the pioneering of new development, undertaking production design and supervision, marketing, installation and operation of equipment, amongst others.
To produce technically qualified well-rounded Electrical and Electronic Engineers with the potential to become leaders of industry and the nation.
