Introduction

The Foundation Programme is designed for students who have successfully completed their O-Level, SPM or equivalent level.  It prepares student for admission to degree programmes. The Foundation Programme is a complete academic programme that provides students the basic knowledge and necessary skills relevant to the respective degree programmes in engineering and technology.

Candidates selected for this programme must undergo and pass the Foundation Studies in UTP before furthering a course in the Bachelors Degree programme.

The following Foundation Programmes are offered:

 

  • Foundation in Engineering
  • Foundation in Technology



Programme Objectives

To produce students with sufficient analytical skills and knowledge in fundamental sciences and mathematics for pursuing education in engineering and technology.


Programme Outcomes

At the end of the programme, students should be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of science and mathematics in problem solving.
  • Apply analytical skills to interpret and solve problems.
  • Communicate effectively in English.
  • Practise behaviour that reflects good values in the learning process.



Duration


Foundation programme – 1 year (3 semesters)

Upon passing the UTP Foundation Programme, students will be able to proceed with their assigned Bachelors Degree.  The degree programmes are listed below:



Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)


  • Chemical
  • Civil
  • Electrical & Electronics
  • Mechanical
  • Petroleum

 


Bachelor of Technology (Honours)



  • Petroleum Geoscience
  • Business Information Systems
  • Information & Communication Technology

 




Minimum Entry Requirement

Foundation Engineering & Petroleum Geoscience

  • Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent
    Pass SPM/ SPMV with at least five (5) Credits (Grade C) inclusive of Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Inggeris, Mathematics, Physic, Chemistry; AND at least Credit (Grade C) in Additional Mathematics;

  • O-Level or equivalent
    Pass O-Level with at least five (5) Credits (Grade C) inclusive of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, AND any other two (2) subjects.

Foundation Technology

  • Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent
    Pass SPM/ SPMV with at least five (5) Credits (Grade C) inclusive of Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Inggeris, Mathematics AND any two (2) other non-language subjects;

  • O-Level or equivalent
    Pass O-Level with at least five (5) credits (Grade C); AND at least Grade C in Mathematic AND any two (2) other non-language subjects;

Withdrawal from UTP


Students who intend to withdraw from UTP are required to complete the Clearance form 
(UTP-REG/ADM-008-15) that can be obtained from Admission & Registration Unit, Registry Office.

How to Apply

 

  • Tentatively, UTP has 2 intakes per year (to be confirmed).
  • Application must be made online together with hardcopy submission
  • Announcement to invite application will be made at the main page of UTP Website once the online application is open for a particular intake session
  • Applicant needs to submit a fresh new application for each intake session.
  • An application fee is chargeable at *RM30.00 for each application (Engineering, Petroleum Geoscience and Technology) will go into effect January 2015 Intake onward and subject to changes.

What are the entry qualifications for admission into Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS?

Foundation Programme -  SPM / O-level or equivalent.

What is the method of application?

Application must be made through on-line. The on-line application portal will be linked to UTP website (main page) once it is open.


4.

When is the closing date of application?

For March Intake, the online application will be opened from November till January whereas for July Intake, the online application will be opened in March till April. The exact date of online application (opening and closing date) will be announced in the UTP website once the application portal is open.

5.

I have submitted my application. What is the next process?

Application must be made on-line AND followed with the submission of related documents (closing date for online application for each intake session will be notified in the UTP website/application portal).

Your application will only be processed WHEN :

  • The on-line application has been submitted (Note: A reference number will be generated and will appear in the pop-up message upon each successful submission); AND

  • The printed on-line application and all related documents received by Admission Unit, Registry Office, UTP on/before the last day of submission (Note: Documents needed, address and procedure to submit the application documents is available in the application portal once it is open).

 

You are then to check your application status via UTP website within dates as stipulated in the application portal (Note: Please remember your email address and your password used for the on-line application, they are needed for you to re-log into the application portal for checking of application status).


6.

How long does it take to complete a programme at UTP?

  • Foundation Programme (Foundation Engineering & Foundation Technology) – 1 year (3 semesters).

  • Undergraduate Programme (Engineering Programmes and Petroleum Geoscience) – 4 years.

  • Undergraduate Programme (Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and Business Information System (BIS)) – 3 and ½ years.

  • Undergraduate Programme (Applied Chemistry and Applied Physics) – 3 and ½ years.
7.

How much is the total fee and when to pay ?

 

  • Registration fee (for new students only) = RM2,900.00
    To pay before the registration date.

 

 

Tuition fee

 

Foundation Programme
Tuition fee 1-year studies (including estimated hostel fee) = RM17,280.00 (the amount will be deducted by RM2,000 tuition fee partial paid during registration and the remaining fee is segregated by semester based on total credit hours taken for the particular semester). To pay at least 2 weeks before commencement of final examination for the particular semester.

 

Note:


Credit hour rate for Foundation Programme is RM264.00. The above fees exclude medical check-up for all new students (to be conducted in UTP campus) chargeable separately at approximately RM230.00.

8.

Will there be in campus accommodation available?

Yes. Students will be provided with accommodation for their whole education period in UTP. The cost of accommodation is approximately at RM600.00/semester for Foundation


9.

Does UTP provide sponsorship?

No. However, UTP may assist the student for application of sponsorship from various sponsoring agencies (government or private organization) through UTP Sponsorship Unit.
