Title: "Science, Engineering and Technology Innovation : Doing It From The Heart"

Puan Juniwati

Biography:

Juniwati Rahmat Hussin holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK.  She has attended several advanced management courses such as the GE Advanced Manager Course, INSEAD Senior Management Development Programme, Certificate in International Management and the HENLEY Business School Advanced Management Programme, UK.  She was the recipient of the PETRONAS’ Excellent Service Award in 1981.

She joined the Malaysian National Oil Company, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) in 1981 and is currently the Vice President of Human Resource Management, PETRONAS.  Prior to assuming this position, she has held various Technical and Non-Technical positions across the PETRONAS Group.

Her experience covers a wide range of areas.  She started her career in the Oil Refining Business covering various positions such as an Analytical Chemist, Process Engineer, Production Planner and Project Engineer.  With about 12 years hands-on experience in the Oil Refinery, she moved to the Corporate Headquarters to take up a managerial position in Corporate Planning and Business Development Division.  It was during her 7 years tenure that PETRONAS expended aggressively internationally and also ventured into the Petrochemical Business.  The next obvious move was to Human Resources Division where her portfolio covered Manpower Planning, Recruitment and Job Evaluation.  After 3 years with HR, she spent another 3 years with the Petrochemical Business but this time Marketing and Trading of Petrochemical products.  From the selling of petrochemical products, she had the opportunity to “sell” classical music concerts when she headed the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra for 3 years as the CEO. Juni is also very active in sports and was a competitive swimmer and tennis player in her student days.

She is currently the Chairman of Board of Directors, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS since 2009.  She sits on the Board of several companies in the PETRONAS Group.

Title:  "Malaysia - National Integrity initiative and updates "

Datuk Dr Mohd Tap Bin Salleh

    

Biography:

Datuk Dr Mohd Tap bin Salleh graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from Monash University, Australia, a Master’s of Science (Social Planning) from the University of Wales, U.K. and he also holds a PhD (Development Planning) from the University of Bath, United Kingdom.

He has served as Deputy Director, Governance and Institutional Development Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London from 1996 – 2002.  He became Deputy Secretary General; Ministry of Tourism Malaysia from 2003 to 2004 and from 2004 to 2006 he was the Secretary General, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Malaysia.  Currently, Datuk Dr Mohd Tap Salleh is the President of the Malaysian Institute of Integrity, a post he holds since 2007.

Title: "Technology as Extension of Man, Mind and Spirit"

  

 Biography:

Dr. Ahmad Murad Merican is a professor at the Department of Management and Humanities, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, in Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak.  His academic and research interests include Media, Journalism and Technology Studies, and postcolonial studies. He has published 9 monographs and books (including four edited volumes), journal articles and book chapters on his areas of interest.  He obtained a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science (Malaya), Master of Arts (Mass Communication), and a Baccalaureate in Political Science (Minnesota). He holds a Diploma in Mass Communication, majoring in Journalism from Institut Teknologi MARA. He is a referee/contributor to such journals as the Asiapacific Media Educator, Current Sociology, Forum Komunikasi, International Sociology, Journal of the Malaysian Branch Royal Asiatic Society, Jurnal Komunikasi, Melayu: Jurnal Antarabangsa Dunia Melayu, Global Media Journal and Southeast Asian Journal of Social Sciences. He is also on the editorial board of Asiapacific Media Educator, Analisis Sejarah (Department of History, Universitas Andalas), Forum Komunikasi (Faculty for Communication and Media Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA - UiTM) and the International Journal of Communication and Media (College of Arts and Sciences, Universiti Utara Malaysia). He occasionally writes for the popular periodicals and is a columnist  The New Sunday Times. He has been interviewed both by the Malaysian and foreign media including the New Straits Times, Utusan Malaysia, Berita Harian, the Star, RTM, TV3, ASTRO, Radio Singapura Internasional, Reuters, Padang Ekspres, Harian Singgalang, BTTV (Bukittinggi, West Sumatera) and TVRI, in Padang, Indonesia. He was instrumental in establishing the journalism and media studies program at Universitas Andalas in West Sumatra, Indonesia.  He is associated with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI). His contributions to the journalistic fraternity was through moderating workshops mainly  in science and technology journalism under the auspices of MPI, and at various times, being a member of the panel of judges for the PETRONAS-Malaysia Press Institute Journalism Awards. He sits on various panels, among them the Malaysian Qualifications Agency – program assessment, university assessment and Malaysia University Rating Committee, as well as the History and Philosophy of Science Committee under the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka,  He has been a member of the Ministry of Higher Education’s  Social Science and Humanities Panel. One of his books is titled Media History: Worldviews and Communication Futures (University of Malaya Press, 2005). He has also published a reader  titled Blinded by the Lights: Journalism and Communication Study in Malaysia since 1971 (Upena, 2008). He was the Honorary President Resident Fellow, Perdana Leadership Foundation (2009-2011). He is also a protem committee member for the establishment of the Academy of Social Science and Humanities Malaysia under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Title : "Sustainability: The Need to Bridge Disciplinary Silos and the Theory-Practice Divide"

 

 

Kate Kearins 2

Biography:

Dr. Kate Kearins is Professor of Management and Associate Dean Research in the Faculty of Business and Law at Auckland University of Technology. A New Zealander by birth, she has come to be well-known internationally for her research and teaching expertise in management and organisation studies, and more specifically in the field of business and sustainability. Her first degree was in Education and French; she has masters’ degrees in both French and Management and a PhD in Management from two different New Zealand universities. Professor Kearins has authored over 180 academic papers. Currently she is researching strategy for social enterprises, stakeholder engagement and ecopreneurship, as well as considering issues such as academic work composition and publication ethics.

She favours interpretive and critical approaches, with an emphasis on discourse, textual and case-based methods, having also taught qualitative research methods. She has been joint-recipient of several international awards for case research, and has coauthored a series of papers on business education for sustainability. Professor Kearins was Chair of the US-based Academy of Management’s Organizations and the Natural Environment Division in 2006-7, and is currently a member of the Academy of Management's Board of Governors, and Ethics Committee.  She is also a director and fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management.  She serves on the editorial boards of Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Business and Society, Business Strategy and the Environment, Journal of Management Education, Management Communication Quarterly, and Organization and Environment, among others. In 2011, she was a visiting researcher at the Centre for Accounting, Governance and Sustainability at the University South Australia, and continued to serve as International External Examiner for the Management and Humanities Department at the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. Professor Kearins has been on research grants and assessment panels, serving also as a judge for international case-writing, dissertation and book awards. She won an award for Excellence in Research Supervision in 2009, and recently co-edited a book titled Thesis Survivor Stories, offering practical advice on getting through PhD and masters’ theses.
