1.0 Application Procedure

1.1 Prior to submitting the application form, you are advised to:

  • Prepare research proposal for research base application (pls download guideline for research proposal)
  • Qualify for English test – pls refer to English requirement
  • Download 2 referree form

 

1.2 All application must be submitted through the online application form

 

1.3 After completing and submitting the online application form, please:

  • Print the completed application form (2 copies-1 to be submitted to UTP & 1 for own record)
  • Submit the printed application form together with the following documents;
    • Research Proposal ( Only for Research mode)
    • Certified true copy of IC (Malaysian) or Certified true copy of passport (non-Malaysian if readily available)
    • Certified true copy of academic transcript (Undergraduate & above)
    • Certified true copy of Degree scroll
    • Certified true copy of TOEFL/IELTS/MUET certificate
    • 4 copies of passport-size photo
    • 2 Referee form

6.0 Duration of Courses

a) By Research: -

i)MSc program - Minimum 3 semesters and maximum 8 semesters
ii) PhD program – Minimum 4 semesters and maximum 12 semesters

b) By Coursework & Dissertation

i) On Campus - Minimum 18-months
ii)Off Campus - Minimum 24 months

 

7.0 Qualification for Each Programme

i) Academic Requirement

1) MSc Programme (by Research @ Coursework & Dissertation)

a) Fresh Graduate

Candidates must hold a BSc Degree with minimum CGPA 3.00/4.00 or 75% or 2nd Class Upper Division or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized university

b) With relevant experience

Candidates must hold a BSc Degree or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized university

 

2) PhD Programme (By Research)

a) Fresh Graduate from MSc by Coursework

Candidates must hold a MSc Degree with minimum CGPA 3.00/4.00 or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized university

b) Fresh Graduate from MSc by Research

Candidates must hold a MSc Degree or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized university

c) With relevant experience

Candidates must hold a MSc Degree or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized university

 

ii) English Requirement

Candidates are required to show proficiency in written and spoken English in one of the following forms:

  • A minimum TOEFL score of 550 or
  • A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or
  • A minimum ELTS score of Band-6 or
  • A minimum MUET score of Band-4
  • Applicants who are native English speakers or holding a degree with English as the medium of instruction may be exempted from this requirement.

 

8.0 Tuition Fee for Each Programme

For MSc & PhD by research, the tuition fees are as follows: -

9.0 Other Matters for Consideration

Candidates are advised to have sufficient fund to cover the following expenses:

  • Hostel rental about RM 160 per month
  • Foods and beverages approximately RM 500 per month
  • Personal laptop
  • Transportation i.e motorcycle, car, bicycle

 

10.0 Financial Assistances

  • Various sources are available for student to apply.

    a) UTP GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP SCHEME (GA)

    • On campus student (research only).
    • Cover tuition fees (semester fee, research methodology, viva@examination).
    • Registration, accommodation and transportation are not covered and will need to be born by the student.
    • Candidate will be assigned 5 hours of academic activities per week in the form of tutorials or laboratory demonstration or any other related academic activities.
    • Candidate will need to perform 22 research days per month.
    • Monthly Subsistence Allowance.
      • MSc student – RM 1,650.00
      • PhD student – RM 2,200.00

    b) UTP TUITION FEE WAIVER SCHEME (TFW)

    • On campus student (research only).
    • Cover tuition fees (semester fee, research methodology, viva@examination).
    • Registration, accommodation and transportation are not covered and will need to be born by the student.
    • Candidate will be assigned 5 hours of academic activities per week in the form of tutorials or laboratory demonstration or any other related academic activities.

    c) MINISTRY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (MOSTI) – NATIONAL SCIENCE FELLOWSHIP (NSF)

    • Malaysian only.
    • On campus student (research only).
    • Must be attached with MOSTI funded project.
    • Cover tuition fees (semester fee, research methodology, viva@examination).
    • Registration, accommodation and transportation are not covered and will need to be born by the student.
    • Monthly Subsistence Allowance.
      • MSc student – RM 1,560.00
      • PhD student – RM 2,300.00

    d) MINISTRY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (MOSTI) – POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP (PGD)

    • Malaysian only.
    • On campus student (research only).
    • Must be attached with MOSTI funded project.
    • Cover tuition fees (semester fee, research methodology, viva@examination).
    • Registration, accommodation and transportation are not covered and will need to be born by the student.
    • Monthly Subsistence Allowance.
      • MSc student – RM 1,300.00
      • PhD student – RM 1,500.00

    e) MINISTRY OF HIGHER EDUCATION (MOHE) - TAJAAN BAJET MINI 2009/2010

    • Malaysian only.
    • On campus student (research / coursework).
    • Cover tuition fees (semester/program fee, research methodology, viva@examination).
    • Registration, accommodation and transportation are not covered and will need to be born by the student.
    • Value of assistantship
      • MSc student – Maximum RM 10,000.00
      • PhD student – Maximum RM 20,000.00
