About Us

 

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Information Resource Centre nicknamed IRC was established in July 1997 as a support centre for academic activities of the university. Housing an approximately 210,000 volumes of items, the collection comprises of a wide variety of printed and non-printed materials ranging from books, periodicals, in-house reports, audiovisuals and multimedia. The collection also includes an expanding range of electronic resources such as interactive CD-ROMs, e-books, e-journal and online databases. With intent focus on the field of engineering and technology, IRC aims to provide adequate and up-to-date knowledge and resources to cater for the increasing demands of the clientele, which has different levels of information needs either for their research, self-teaching or multi-learning environment. In line with the rapid IT development, IRC is committed to incorporate high-tech and up-to-date IT infrastructure. At present, IRC is equipped with integrated library system known as Millennium by Innovative Interfaces Inc. which promote efficient retrieval of information thus enables users to explore not only resources at IRC but also from all PETRONAS Group-wide Resource Centres.

1997

UTP Library began operation at Multipurpose Hall with 20,000 volume of books collection and 100 seating capacity 

1998

Successfully installed Techlib Plus Integrated Library System (ILS)

1999

UTP Library was renamed as Information Resource Centre (IRC)

 

TechLib Plus ILS was upgraded to web version called Basis Techlib

2001

IRC began operation at former Universiti Sains Malaysia Tronoh Library building with 70,000 volume of books collection and 300 seating capacity

2004

Official Launching of Chancellor Complex which houses UTP Chancellor Hall and the new IRC with 100,000 volume of books collection and 1,600 seating capacity

2007

ILS migration to Java base Millennium

 

Official Launching of Platinum Collection

2008

Establishment of Friends of IRC (FIRC)

2009

First Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Tronoh by IRC and FIRC

 

First Issue of IRC Newsletter published

Inaugural IRC Carnivals 2010: Knowledge Hotspot launched

Official Launching of PG Lounge

Introduced remote access service for IRC subscribed e-resources via OpenAthensMD
